Can you help yourself to be happier?
Well, you can, and all you need to do is to think positive simple!! That is what the self-help books seem to tell you. Whatever you want you need to think about it as an affirmation and visualise it, and you will be able to manifest health wealth and happiness.
The truth is that it is much more than thinking positively and visualising it. If it were that easy, I would be out of a job.
Our self-talk and the way we think are really important. Even if we do not realise it.
Do you catch your self-saying :
I am always hungry?
I worry all the time?
I analyse everything?
I am always tired?
I am not lucky?
I am naturally a worrier?
And the list goes on. This is not a very positive attitude to have.
What we focus on or think about is what we manifest in our lives.
How do you stop negative thoughts?
For some of us, it is not easy and needs work to change the way we think. Changing thoughts is the easy part. Believing thoughts are a little bit harder. But when you believe your thoughts that is when the magic starts to happen.
To change what you are thinking here are some tips that you can use.
Write down what your negative thoughts are. So that you know what you are thinking.
Look at them. Say them out loud and notice how they make you feel. How much you believe them.
Now you know what they are and how they make you feel.
Spend a day with them. Not fighting them following them.
Now comes the hard bit.
Look at them again and from every unwanted thought that you have. Think of THREE positive things that come from that thought. YES, Positive things.
For example: If it is sleeping problems you are having. What do you gain from not sleeping? I can’t answer this for you. But you can if you really try. It might be that you don’t have to do something as you are too tired? Or it is the only time you have to think?
Lacking confidence in something what positive things come from that? It could be that it stops you from meeting new people? Or maybe speaking out, which in turn can prevent you from getting something wrong.
If you are the type of person that analyses everything you may find it easier to find THREE positives things from your unwanted thoughts.
Not letting go of something can keep you from moving forward and I know it sounds harsh, but we do get comfortable with what we know.
When you have understood what it is that you gain from your negative self-talk. This may take time, be kind to yourself. It may take you a few days to find THREE positive things from your unwanted thoughts or behaviours. Everything we do we do for a reason.
Now that you have THREE positive things from your unwanted thoughts start focusing on the positive things.
Practice this for a week.
Now you are beginning to change your thoughts. Now start noticing every day the good things that happen to you.
Doesn’t have to be major good things small things like the sun is shining. You noticed a beautiful picture. A friend may have called you out of the blue to see how you are. Or you have a nice car.
Start small and who knows you find more and more positive things happening to you.
